The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers across most parts of the island after 1 p.m. today. Atmospheric conditions are favourable for evening thunderstorms, and the public is advised to take precautions against strong winds and severe lightning. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in parts of the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces.
