The Police Media Division said a 14-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a train near the Thismalpola railway station in Rambukkana on the morning of September 27. Police said the accident occurred when the victim, a resident of Medagama, had traveled with several friends on a train from Rambukkana to Colombo Fort. At Thismalpola, while the others alighted onto the platform, the boy mistakenly stepped onto the tracks and was hit by the Badulla–Colombo Fort express train.
