The Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today rejected a request made by the lawyer representing the complainant to arrest Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe, and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal over an alleged fraudulent lease of a building in Dehiwala belonging to the National Workers’ Institute. Magistrate Pasan Amarasekera ruled that although a complaint had been filed claiming a forged lease agreement was used to rent the two-storied property for Rs. 3 million, the evidence presented so far did not establish sufficient grounds of a criminal offence.
