1,200 landslides in Sri Lanka by Cyclone Ditwah, 20-pct of land under water: UNDP

ECONOMYNEXT – Cyclone Ditwah had inundated 1.1 million hectares or 20 percent of the island and triggered 1,200 landslides, a study by the United Nations Development Program has round. “The floodwaters reached nearly 720,000 buildings, about one in every twelve buildings in the country,” the report said. “Over 16,000 kilometres of roads, enough to circle the island’s coastline more than twelve times, were exposed to flooding.
